I reccomend using KOH (pottasium hydroxide) instead of lye as it is apparently a lot less toxic when dealing with the wash water. The glycerin by-product remains liquid with koh. I have stored all my glycerin until recently. I built a condenser and boiled off a bunch of the trapped methanol leaving useful liquid glycerin behind. Anyone want a little? I have about 50 gallons of it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Pacific Chemicals in Berkeley on 4th street has KOH for $60 - $65 for 25 kg (55 lbs) You have to set up a business account with them but it's a matter of just coming up with a name. You may want to call ahead for that, when I just showed up and did it it seemed to confuse them.
