I'm guessing it's a good thing that I always keep new tires on my truck, I tried to drop the spare today so I can loose weight for an upcoming dragrace and the bar will not engage. I looked into the tube and there is a five point star inside. Am I missing the tool, have it and don't know where it is? Glad I'm in my driveway with no flat /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/phoney.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif

Looks kinda like a socket. It fits on the end of the extension rod.

In your glove box? Maybe taped to the stock (in truck)jack?

My spare tire carrier assy. broke on me. I was turning the rod with the extension that came on the radiator but the tire would not come down. The carrier has a ratchet gizmo on there to keep the tire from getting pulled to tight against the frame. The ratchet would not let the tire loose. They had some bad ones get out of the factory. With two people and wrangling I got my spare down. One turning the ratchet handle and me jostling the spare. I replaced the carrier assy. with an updated model from Ford that had spring on the tire holder. $50-60 I think and 2 bolts simple. This evidently was fixed soon after. No special tool on mine just the jack extension. 99.5 Model

My dealer couldn't take it off, no tools. I lost my tool. But still had the card, called the phone number on the card, they asked me the tool number that was also on the card, cost me $24 plus shipping for a new tool.

Contrary to what somebody stated, it won't cost you $90. Call the manufacturer of the keys, McGard( http://www.mcgard.com/contact/ ). They can tell you what local dealers have a master key set. Take your truck to one of them, and have them try the 13 keys out to figure out which one fits yours. Get the number off of it, and call McGard and order one. Less than $25.

My Gawd.... here ya go... take something that will reach... pop the puzzle adapter out of the spare tire winch.... use the jack handle without the puzzle key.

Maybe it is rocket science....

Thanks Jim. It's much easier to relax in airconditioned comfort and seek advice than actually look at it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Besides, the driveway is too dam hot now to be laying on it.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif
