Spark plug question

2194 Views 9 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  budman451
One of our trucks has the V10 in it. On the way in to work yesterday morning, the fourth plug back on the passenger side blew out.

Big bang, followed by lots of little bangs....

Disconnected the coil, pulled the plug, and the first couple of threads on the end of the plug are bunged up.

With lots of sticky oil to hold on to shavings, I run a tap through the head - it runs through and back with no problem, but I can't get a new spark plug to thread into the hole.

Any ideas on what to do next?

Thanks

Any idea what kind of price I should expect for a head replacement? Just so I have some notion before I start talking to mechanics.

Thanks again

Ouch. Thanks.

One other thing - I've been told two different things about this plug. Several people have told me that the only reason a plug would blow out is if was installed loose or cross-threaded. Two people have told me that it's, "a common problem with that enigne."

Who should I listen to on this? (In other words, since the guy who instaled the plugs last time is one of the guys telling me it's a common problem, is he being straight with me or is he fullovit?)

Thanks again
