I'm going to pull my 8,000lb fifth wheel down to FL next month. My truck is all stock with an automatic transmission, and 4:10 gears. What speed should I be pulling it? And can I pull it in overdrive on the flat parts of the drive without tearing up the tranny? This is my first long trip with the truck and I'm a little nervous. Thanks for any advise.

The biggest thing you need to pay attention to is your braking system. The truck will pull way more than you will ever want to pull and it will do it at highway speed, your biggest concern is being able to stop it when you want to. Does your trailer have brakes? As far as the tranny, most of my heavy driving (30,000lb + in gvwr) was with my manny, but we've used my wife's truck that was just like mine but had an auto tranny to pull an 8,000 t.t. from here through the Rockies plenty of times.

I tow a 10K 5er and before my mods and guages I took it easy. I still towed in OD. Now after my mods I just go with the flow and let her rip in the fast lane. After towing for 30K, IMHO, the Mobil 1 in the trans is great for keeping the heat down.
