For a few months now, I have noticed a squeeking noise when I first start the truck. It would typically go away after it was warm. Today, it remained even after the truck was warm. Now, when warm, it goes away at idle but returns when throttle is applied.

I remember someone posting a picture of a good tensioner beside a bad one. Mine doesn't look like the bad one where it sits now (still in the truck). My question: is there a way I can tell for sure if the tensioner is bad, beyond a visual inspection? Also, could there be another culprit? The belt shows no obvious signs of wear.

Hello:
I would check where it squeaks, it could be a failure of some accessory. If it is the tensioner, it will probably slip on the harmonic balancer. Check the loads of different accessories and if it makes a difference (a/c, power steering,e tc)

I am the one with the picture that compares the good with the bad one..../ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif ALL I Can say is that mine did the squeek on first start too,,didnt do it all the time ever. Just on start up and for a couple minutes untill warmed. So I would check it very closely. NOT saying it has to be that,,but those were my symptoms too...ok? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/phoney.gif
