OK, here is a good one. My 2002 f250 has 147,000 miles on it. Always starts well, even better than my other 7.3's that have less than 70,000 on them. Late last week I began to hear a momentary metallic sound when starting, that sound when a starter bendix is getting weak/ready to go. Did it Friday leaving from work. Stopped at grocery, came out, no start. The horrible whining/bad bendix sound. Had it towed home. Went and got a new starter Saturday. Crawled under yesterday to replace and guess what? Bottom bolt was halfway out and starter was sitting there "cocked eyed". Thought, OK, I'll just tighten it back up but, low and behold, the bottom of the mounting plate was broken off with it. I tried to put it back on and tightening the top bolt extra tight, but to no avail; starter won't engage. So, I guess my next stop is another tow to Ford for repair unless others have suggestions for fixes/repairs. I have attached photos of the part in question and a photo I found of damage similar to mine. BTW, the truck has been serviced oil/filter ever 3000 and fuel filters every 6000. No programs, chips, or other modifications. No hard towing, mostly daily driver to work.

I've got a good spacer if you want to make me an offer. I've got about $50 in it plus shipping.

I just went through this myself. Every one of my transmission bolts was hand tight and one was missing. That let the spacer flex. This one I got on eBay but they took forever to ship so I had to get one locally.

It wasn't a hard repair if you are comfortable pulling transmissions. I sure wouldn't take it to a dealer. A transmission shop might do it cheap.

It looks like your flex plate is broken as well - I've got a brand new flex plate as well - it would be easy to ship them together if you are interested.
