Has your starter failed by first cranking slowly, then eventually dying? How long did it take to die?
My truck suddenly started cranking slowly a couple days ago, will barely start. Had the batteries checked yesterday, both OK. Checked/cleaned the cables, didn't help. So I think my starter is going bad.
I've ordered a new one (a Nippondenso gear-reduction unit from eBay seller DB Electrical), will be here Wed, Nov 8. With the short afternoons and changeable weather I don't know if I will be able to get it in right away; it might take a few additional days, perhaps Nov 12 at latest.
Can I make it that long? I can work from home if necessary, but I prefer not to. Do you think I can get another couple dozen starts from the old starter before it quits? Or should I work from home and minimize my driving?

Howdy to all my old pals on the site! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I haven't posted in a while, and my truck has been running well. Why do they run good all summer and then start acting up when it's cold, wet, and miserable weather for working on them? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Anyone with glow plug relay problems this fall, get a Stancor 586-902. Mine is still going . . . and going . . . with no problems after almost 4 years. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif
I have an injector that's slowly fading, I'll probably replace it next summer. Then the question is -- replace just that one with a stock unit, or upgrade all of them?
I'm still testing my new Filtration Solutions bypass filter. Should be time for an oil analysis around the end of the year, then we'll see. However, the oil is noticeably cleaner looking on the dipstick than with my old Amsoil dual bypass.
