Some time ago I read that a SD starter can be used in place of the PS starter. ( I think? memory is great but short) Did a search and could find nothing. Is this true. I believe my starter is going. Slow cranking, good alternator and strong battery. I would appreciate being pointed to the correct post on this subject or information from someone who has done this.

SuperDuty starter will work (7.3), but you will have to enlarge the hole in the small wire terminal to fit over the stud. Also FYI, it only uses two mounting bolts instead of three.

I second DB Electrical. They shipped mine from a distributor in
MN and it got here, MI, in 2 days by UPS. It has the 2 bolt mounting
setup and 4KW starting power. I had no idea my engine could spin
over so fast! Anyway, I didn't have to increase the lug hole size
on my smaller wire. It was snug but, the screw easily hand threaded
into the wire hole. I tried to buy the SD starter at the local
dealer but, was told that my "core" had to be the same as what I
was buying or I wouldn't get the $75 core charge back. I wasn't
paying over $275 just to stay with a "Ford" starter. So, I called
DB. http://stores.ebay.com/DB-Electrical-Starters-Alternators_W0QQsspagenameZVIStoreHeaderLinksQQtZkm /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

I also recommend DB. I bought an older-style (not SD) starter from them last August for my 96. It was dragging really badly and DB replaced it last month, no questions asked. I think I paid around $130 for it, delivered to my door.
