On my '02 129k hot, cold, anything in between it sounds like the starter is straining more on one stroke than the rest. It will do this 100% of the time no matter how long it's been since the truck has last run. It has no problem starting and runs on all 8 (unless it's 30 or less where it might miss a couple times). Does not grind. With fresh batts it still seems to crank slower than my dad's 99. Anyone have an idea whats going on? I could put up a video but I think the above about describes it.

It is charging, showing ~14v after the gpr cuts off. I'm just wondering why at one point during each rev while cranking it bogs. Is there something else electrical that demands a big load at one point in each revolution that would be noticed while cranking?

I've noticed that my 02 cranks slower than the earlier trucks too, It's because our trucks have a smaller gear reduction starter vs the 1999's big direct drive. Not really sure on the straining on one stroke more though.

My starter got slower as well. Replaced batteries, etc... It was the starter. The starters can just get week. Put a new starter in and all was back to the original quick starter I was use to when I first got the truck new.

Thats cool but for budgetary concerns (aka recently jobless) I'll run it unless starting becomes questionable. But the main issue still bugs me. Why would sound like "n-n-n-grrr-n-n-n-n-n-n-n-grrr-n-n..." I might grab a video and post it tonight so you can hear what I'm talking about. Like I said, it's not a grind, its a bogging down at one part in the turn.
