I have a '02 f-350 dually, the question is yesterday it was 27 degrees outside and I went out to start my truck to warm it up before we left for the evening and it cranked real fast and fired up but it loped real hard. So i turned it off cycle the key on and off to make sure the cyclinders were warm and the fired it up again and everything went smoothly. The block heater was plugged in but I don't know if it is working properly. Every time I start it the engine temp gauge is still cold but the trans temp gauge is a little warmer. I just was wondering if it's something I should worry about or not. Never had any cold starting problems with my '01 f-250. Any thoughts?

I start mine all the time below that with out it plugged in,they dont like the cold but after new Glow plugs, GPR , Batterys....I found out my Cables were bad. After putting a New one my truck she starts up great now. The volts have to be right on the money or they dont like to start. I think your fine, just a fluke thing with the loop.

At that outside temp and plugged in (which it sounds like the heater is fine), it shouldn,t have an issue with even 15W-40 oil. I would watch it and suspect the Glow Plug Relay, if it continues to act that way. By the way when its cool outside, it helps to let the glow plugs cycle a little longer.
