What play?
I saw no play in any of the linkage in the video. I saw rotation that is a characteristic of the design of a ball joint.

Play is probably the wrong word. More like you said, a rotational tolerance. Certainly within design spec.

Epic, what prompted you to take that video? Are you not happy with the ride of your 2011 superduty? Do you think this is contributing to a rough ride of the vehicel? I am trying to figure out why my brand new 2011 f20 superduty 6.7L 60K truck rides rough even on smoth rodes, like a binding sensations in the drivetrain, rough ride, slight bump steer, .... do tell. Thank you.

This was more of a curiosity than anything. A poster on another forum took a video of his drag link twisting and was wondering if it was normal. It was. There are a few guys having issues with wobbling and I was curious to see if the drag link or stabilizer would show anything. It didn't.

I have been pretty unhappy with the OEM Ranchos on the truck though. I have recorded some video of the shocks rebounding and will compare that action to the new shocks when they are installed. Kind of a before and after exercise.

I can imagine a Ford tech would find the vid pretty mundane. It was more educational for me.

I do have a 2 inch spacer on top of the front coils as a leveler. No change to the pitman arm.

I get a little bit of steering wheel wobble only on bad bumps at higher speeds. Maybe for a second but it corrects on it's own. I've heard other guys complain of actual death wobble but I haven't experienced that. I'm pretty sure my larger tires contribute a bit.

Having said that, I have no use for death wobble. lol. I figure if I can feel even the slightest little bit and can correct it, why not? The OEM shocks need replacing anyway and the stock steering stabilizer is pretty useless IMOP. I'll just change them out now an not have to worry about anything.

I've seen the videos of real death wobble and completely agree with you if you had that experience. Understand that what I've felt is 1% of that but I don't want to let it increase over time either. Even thoug I feel like the OEM shocks are inadequate, I don't want to go to the dealer and just get them replaced with some weak new ones. I'd just rather make a mod that will make the truck work better.

Epic, I too have a wobble and agree with your description. It is not a death wobble and not that severe but it is present nonetheless. My 08 never had it. I was thinking of changing the steering dampener and possibly the shocks. Which ones are you going with?

I'm going to upgrade the stabilizer and the shocks all the way around. The factory offerings just don't cut it for what I want. I figure since they are maintenance items and will need replacement eventually, I just as well do it now and enjoy the ride instead of suffering for a couple of years and doing it then. I'm not blaming Ford because I have made mods that have contributed to the problem.

If I was going to do this incrementally, I'd do the stabilizer first and see if I was happy with that. With my bigger tires, 2 inch level and a very heavy trailer, I'm just going to beef up everything.

I'm definitely going to report back with my thoughts when the job is done. Waiting for some back ordered Rancho 9000XLs. I've used them before and have been happy. I really like the adjustability feature depending on what type of driving I'm doing on any given day.

I've also recorded some under the truck video of the OEM shocks rebounding and will do it again with the new shocks installed. It will be cool to compare the before and after and see if there's any noticeable difference.

I just have to ask, how in the hell did you mount the camera to get such a solid video on the bumps, I first thought you were doing that on a rack, with someone below videotaping the turning of the steering components, and thought, "How is that going to show anything without weight on the suspension?" But you proved me wrong there!

Funny. No big deal. I use a GoPro HD which is designed for motorsports and bumpy/high vibration environments. There are many different mounts and clamps available. I clamped this shot on the front sway bar.

I used to run Rancho 9000's on my other SDuty's. One tip I can give you guys and that is get some Rustoleum Primer and Gloss Enamel and paint them first as they rust right out. I kept getting free one's as I sent in the rusting ones but it was a pain so I just painted them.
On both my 08 and 2011 I have stayed with stock shocks as the truck carries my 4 k truck camper so much better then the 02 and 01 SDutys with Rancho's and Air Bags. I don't know how much going from Extended Cab to Crew Cab made the affect or Fords redsign of the suspension but it carrys and handles so much better. All I have for aftermarket are Timbrens on this F350
