Hey all!

I am an amateur when it comes to working on diesel trucks, but am willing to learn. I just bought a 97' Ford F250 and need to do some work on it to get the truck in strong running condition.

The steering column has a lot of "play" in it and so I find myself trying to solve two problems:

-Where is the best place to find a replacement steering column?

AND

-Once located how do you replace the steering column in this truck?

Thanks for any and all help/links, etc!

Hey Steve,

Thanks for the feedback and welcome! The column itself is moving up and down in my truck. I heard of a recall on some of the steering column parts (Found HERE) in my truck so I am thinking I will take it to the dealership and have the recall work done and see where we land from there.

To be continued soon!

Problem Solved!

I contacted my local Ford dealer and Ford customer service to find out if my truck had the outstanding recall I found on Ford-Trucks.com and it does not qualify for the steering column recall. The My truck is a 97' model that was made in mid 96' which means it misses the recall window by about six months.

So, I decided to order a rebuilt steering column from Columns Galore to solve the issue before I had to pull several heavy trailers the last week. The columns galore folks did a great job shipping the right column quickly and were also friendly on the phone.

The rebuilt column is installed now and feels awesome! The shifter, blinker and steering all feel nice and tight like a new truck!

Now it is time for an alignment and it will be ready to rock! :)

For anyone interested in more info about that column, click this thumbnail & read the captions. It's the same column Ford has been using since the early 90s in just about everything. Only the parts you can see change - the stuff underneath is identical.
