Has anyone experience an issue with the steering seeming to bind/lock up after turning the wheel? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif I just had all of the ball joints and tie rod ends checked and new calipers, rotors and pads put on. The power steering pump is full and is not making any noise and appears to working/assisting fine.

Any ideas before I let the shop start throwing parts at it.

Thanks

I'm not sure if they checked the u-joints. But if it is free running hubs would it make a difference? If I locked the hubs would it have less of an impact on the steering?

If the U-joints are binding it will be really easy to tell. Lock the hubs and as soon as you get rolling binding U-joints will pull the steering wheel all over the place in a turn.

i had the same problem but mine ended up in the steering colum, the bearings in their had come out of their little groove and were catching and binding up in the plastic seat. This would cause my steering to completly lock up during some turns creating a very scary and dangerous situation i found the easyist fix to be replacement with a good shape junkyard colum. good luck

I'll lock the hubs in next AM and see if it jerks all over. Too late to play tonight.
Thanks

I have been having the same issue, I replaced the PS pump, and the steering box with no luck. The u-joints are next in line. I will check the same with them locked up.

I guess my steering issue is the outer u-joints in the front end. I locked in the hubs and ran it to work yesterday and my steering issue went away, but now I have a vibration in the front end that is indicative of u-joints going bad/seized on a drive shaft.
I wonder how much this is going to cost to repair.
Does anyone know what all is involved with this job? Does the ball joints have to be seperated to remove these shafts and do I have
to open up the differential to remove a pin or something to pull the shaft out?
I just put $500.00 into the front end for calipers, rotors and new pads. NAPA is not cheap. They charged for 2.7 hours to change 2 rotors. I know I should have done it myself but I did not have the time.
