Steering pump questions

I swapped the vacuum pump today but while trying to tighten the steering pump belt, I pushed it the wrong way and the #@$# plastic hose nipple broke off.

It will be Monday before I can get the money to replace the pump. Even then I'll have to drive about 30 miles to get the money and parts.

So first, will driving the truck without the pump do any harm (other than to my arms)?

Second, seems to me that I saw a post about replacing these plastic pumps with an older, all metal pump. Any ideas on that?

Each part has it's own belt and I've already removed the one for the psp
Make sure the gear box has lubrication, then have fun.
Lol, you have a wicked sense of fun.
I just hope the vacuum pump swap got the brake booster working.
Between the two of them, this could be more fun than I can handle :)
You're right, the vp is driven by a short belt from the alternator.
The alternator belt does wrap around the water pump.
She has an ac but doesn't have a belt on it right now.

Thanks for the head's up Madpogue.

Looks like I may luck out. I'm selling the bench seat from this truck and just got an msg from a guy wanting to come look at it tomorrow.
Fingers crossed!
It does have v belts. But while replacing the vp, I also put on a new alternator belt, which is behind the psp belt
Thanks for the link.
Looking closely at the pics, the brackets look a little different to.
I'll make sure to have mine with me when I pick up a pump
