Have a stock 2005 6.0 Excursuion, 20K miles & pull a 20' enclosed trailer. No exhaust mods or other.
Unit runs cool & fairly stout in stock mode in 94+/- ambient air,
Put in the Latest Granatelli Diablo Sport programmer in the 65hp mode ( middle mode of the, tow, 65hp & 115hp. modes). Engine starts building heat on a hard pull on a on ramp or a hill, ( thermo fan kicks in) and then "Bam", unit runs to max hot. I think it is puking the coolant for the 5-10 secs that it starts engaging the thermo controlled fan just before the max heat session. Have to add about 4 gal of coolant when this happens, So I know it pukes it out.
Reinstalled the stock program. Ran 400 miles in same enviroment. Runs cool, & doesnt lose any coolant.
Reinstalled the Diablo program in the "towing"mode ( lowest of the 3 modes available). Ran 5 miles & same heat problem.
Unistalled the Diablo, Ran another 300 miles with the trailer. All cool. Ran another 600 miles without the trailer last pm. No coolant lose or smoke of any kind.
About to take in to dealer.
Any thouights?
Can the dealer tell me programmer has been "in" the truck? And possibly void the warranty?
My diesel shop says head gaskets, but why, only with the programmer will ANY symptoms show up? No coolant loss whatso ever or problems when running stock.
Thanks,

My thought is head gaskets or possibly the EGR cooler (which is liquid cooled) is boiling your coolant and thus pushing it right out the cap.

4 gallons???? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif wow

Mine only holds 4 gallons.

There's also a tsb on bad gauge clusters where the temp gauge would peg before the engine really got that hot. maybe yours is one of those.
