I am trying to pull the tires off of my 2000 F-250 PSD to inspect the brakes, but am having a hard time getting the wheel lug cap off of the wheel without scratcing the hell out of the wheel. There are three "openings" at the base of each cap so you can pull them off, but I cannot get a pry bar or screw driver in there far enough to keep from scratching the wheel. When I do get the screw driver in far enough and start to pry, it feels like I am going to break the cover. What am I doing wrong? I have looked online, but can't seem to find anything.

Do you guys know of an easy way to get these off without damaging the wheel?

I can build a 4-link suspension, roll cage, etc for a Jeep, but I can't get the wheel caps off my tow rig haha

Use the end of the factory lug wrench. It should have a rubber tip on it so you don't scratch the wheel.

Yeah, the chizle end of the lug wench is designed to pry off the hub caps. I don't think mine includes a rubber protector, but I've never scratched a wheel yet in almost 10 years of using it.

i actually have a tire tool from snap-on that i use but if you use a brake adjusting tool for rear drum brakes that will work as well

Use the factory tool! I cracked one of mine before I discovered it!
