My 99 4x4 F350 automatic seems to stutter when taking off and especially when I make the hard left up my steep driveway. I have recently changed my torque converter and replaced the gear oil in the differential adding a tube of friction modifier. Is one tube usually enough? Could it be some kind of 1st gear clutch pack in the tranny slipping? my truck has 123K and nobody riding with me seems to notice but I feel a stutter/chatter somewhere in the driveline almost like something is slipping a little. thanks all. Jim

"when I make the hard left up my steep driveway." Your rear passenger tire tire seems to be the tire that pulls the most and likes to spin. The extra torque on your steep driveway.....axle twisting?, bad u-jouint, chipped ring and pinion?....

Mine was doing the same thing. Turns out the rear U-Joint had several broken bearings and was siezed up. I replaced the both of them. Also while I had the driveline down I cut the metal tie strap where the slip joint is and pulled the two peices apart and commenced to grease the crap out of it. It was giving me a little jolt or clunk when I stepped on the gas because it had about a millimeter of play in it. packing it with grease made that go away. You can use a hose clamp to replace the metal band that was cut. between the U-Joints and that slip joint all of my shuttering and clunking was cured. Big Red is a pleasure to drive again!!!
