I tried to install Sulastic shackles today, and it was a bit rough to get them off. But my dilemma is that when I followed the instructions and lowered the truck to get the lower part of the shackle on, the lower holes won't align. And the back part of the leaf spring is so tight, I don't see any way to get the back part of the leaf spring to mate with the frame. has anyone had this issue before. It seems the only way to do it is to have some sort of device (or spring shop) that can grab the back of the leaf spring and bend it down to meet with the frame. No small task. The distance apart on the bottom holes is around 3-4 inches, and the shocks were also off to get ready for Bilsteins. Any suggestions ? Thanks for the help.

As it relates to this issue, is it possible to take the steps to remove the rear leaf spring, and by doing that being able to loosen it enough to get the rear shackles (the bottom bolts only) to align ? What's involved in taking the rear leaf springs off ? I assume supporting the axle, removing the tires, releasing the u-bolt nuts then the u-bolts (with I'm sure some tricks in there and issues I can't think of at the moment). If I were to go that route, does anyone think that will work ? Are u-bolt nuts hard to loosen ? Does the driveline and brake lines need to be dealt with also ?

Also, I'm curious about if I were to go that route, and I take the driveline loose, will there be any alignment issues from that point (where the u-bolts were on the axle before vs. after) as it relates to distance front to back. I may have answered my own question about the driveline in that taking it off may not be wise, whereas keeping it on keeps the distance for the driveline intact and not out of whack.

Repair manuals I've seen don't mention anything about the driveline. Maybe there's a reason ? Thanks.

I just switched leaf springs so I had to align the new ones, just as you are trying to do. I would suggest loosening all the spring bolts and using a jack to move the axle up and down as required. With everything loose, you should easily be able to get the rear shackle bolt in.
