Ive been gathering parts and info to do the hutch mod. I have looked at ITP's kit and thought i could save a little dough and put together my own, like guzzles. My question is, Is stainless tubing a must? I am having a heck of a time trying to find stainless tubing, i have procured all the other parts to do the in tank mods as well as a prefilter. Is there any alternative?
thanks

Aluminum tubing would be fine. 6061-T6 tubing is used exclusively in jet aircraft fuel tanks for the plumbing. Jet A is nothing more than filtered kerosene/diesel. I would use it if you can get it. Also being close to Wichita, I would check into aircraft tubing manufactures in your area to see if they will sell you a piece. Most shops have lots of "left over" pieces from making the tubing from aircraft. Hydraulic shops may also be a good place to look, same tubing.

I bought my SS tube from McMaster-Carr but from what I can recall, the smallest amount your could get was like a 6ft stick. Lots left over when you only needed 4" of the 3/8" stuff. I gave away the leftovers a long time ago.

Watch out for the brake line as most that I found was galvanized that does not play with diesel worth a darn.

Unless you are going to do a bunch of kits for your buddies, I still think that you can get the kit from itp diesel as cheap as putting one together yourself.

The cheapest kit I saw was over a hundred bucks. I did the mod myself for $27 bucks. It is true that if I bought the same equivelent parts as the kit has, I would be up there in price, but since none of the rest of the fuel system is stainless, I did not use stainless, and I did not use a high dollar pre-pump fuel filter either, instead i used a cheap in line unit that I bought for $7. Is it just as good? I don't know, but I can tell you that the inline fuel filter is better than the screen that it is replacing, and a 2 micron pre-pump filter is a total over-filtration of fuel at this point. I ran this setup for 2 years and never had any degradation of power in anyway on a 80 hp chip, with turbo upgrades and exhaust. I did change the filter one time when I saw it had water in it. So, another $7. You can make the call yourself.

You are right. Diesel fuel dissolves the zinc in galvanized and it ends up destroying your precious injectors. This is why you never store diesel in metal fuel containers.
