Well I had my 01' f350 dump truck at my mechanics to get fixed. i wasnt starting and I have been so busy I didnt have time anymore to mess with it. He calls me after a few days of having it and says is the injector drive module and its either 500 for a used one or 900 for a new one. I told him to do which ever one he thinks I should do. I Asked him if thats all it needed as i dont want to have any surprises when I get the bill. he said yes. I go to pick up the truck yesterday when I was called to be let known its ready

get there fire it up and it is running how it was before it took a dump. not much power off idle, takes and few seconds of flooring to get it to move from a stop nice....then I look at the bill... ther module for 900, another module for 850, new batteries, oil change, and 8 new glow plugs and some other misc.. grand total....3300!!! then they have the audacity to write and highlight "will need #3 and #8 fuel injectors" Arethey ****ing serious! they had my valve colvers ripped apart and didnt change the bad fuel injectors???? now I need to pay extra labor to take it back and have the thing ripped apart again to do the bad injectors?

Do I have a right to be pissed? Not only did they not say anything about all othe other **** it "needed" but they didnt even fix everything it needed while it was torn apart??? They obviously didnt care about blowing their repair quote out of the water so why wouldnt they just put the 400 dollar injectors in for me while apart??

My friends say I should drop it off and tell them to fix the injectors and Im not paying the labor on it. I havnt paid the bill yet, they always bill me. Do I have a leg to stand on here? My family has been going to this guy for 20 years thanks if you read all this

You authorized one part - $500 or $900 period. That and the labor to install it is all you should be on the hook for. There is no way that all those things conspired to die at the same time. What is the second module anyway? The PCM? It sounds as if he was either just throwing parts at it hoping to get it started or he was just funding his next Disney vacation on your back.

I would take it back, tell him you authorized only the one part (and you want the old part back to verify it was bad) and tell him to either remove the other parts at his expense or to allow you to pay for his cost only for those parts. I still want to know why two modules were truly bad and how he determined that.

Sounds like he is just throwing parts at it. #3 and #8 injectors get higher cylinder contribution % than the others due the the gray cps that ford installed if you had the recall done. See what tests he ran. Like RT said I would just pay for parts you authorized and get the old ones back.

Im with RT u only authorized the one module. Plus they prolly wont be "able" to find your old parts to show u that they were bad.

It is a poor business practice to not fully inform customers of major expenses. Athorizing one major part does not athorize all, in most cases. If you were as clear and specific about your athorizations and limits then you should not have to pay beyond that except for reasonable shop costs, certainly not a covey of major parts. Most businesses would not want to develop that kind of reputation. From what you write it is also not fixed. As for the failure to install injectors that they noted were needed, again poor poor communication with a customer will always make enemys instead of friends. Take it back, calmly state your case especially noting that after all the time and work, an dinflated dollers it is not fixed. I reallly dont think that after all the they know how to fix it. Pay for what you athorized only. Yes your inverted flexibility is being challenged.

bent over and folded up wet, but what's done is done. You would be much better served by investing $400 in AutoEnginuity so that you can diagnose the truck yourself. From what you listed, you could have done the same for under $1K. I think I could dedicate 1 days worth of work to save that $2K. The items that normally cause all the issues are actually fairly easy to repair/replace with little actual mechanical knowledge. It's knowing "which" part you're going after that can be tricky. These boards (and others like it) are instrumental in giving a "how to", and you are also likely to find someone close willing to dive in as well for "refreshments:thumbsup:".
Bottom line: Unless you have a lot of spare cash laying around getting ready to expire if you don't use it, don't return to that shop. They appear to be dealing with a sluggish income through YOUR wallet

A few more things to consider while you decide the course to take.

-All 8 injectors can be purchased for under $1K with stock type guaranteed rebuilds through a site sponsor.

-YOU can install a multi-position chip that will increase the pulling power, or mileage, or make it a "race" dump. (Not really a race, but just lots more power). Again, through a site sponsor for a few hundred. They program the chip to your wants and needs, not a one size fits all product.

-If you require or just want a Ford OEM part, Tousley Ford (another sponsor) is as cheap as you will get it. They put the parts out there for minimal profit, and have changed my views of dealerships and why Ford DIDN'T need a bailout:icon_wink:

If you wish to take this on yourself, another great resource is an online manual. I had a subscription to ALLDATADIY.com, which is so much more than a Haynes manual. It has all the info you need to diagnose, troubleshoot, repair and maintain the truck. It was $25 a year, and additional vehicles were something like $14. I downloaded the materials that I needed and let the subscription expire after the year. You should go look at their sample car.
