I think the screen is to catch the crud and keep it from clogging the return orifice (Flow would be going away from filter. Cheers!

How do you guys clean that little screen? Ive tried scraping the crud off with a long thin screwdriver. Is there a better way? Also is there a way to collect the fuel that dumps out of the filter drain? I don't enjoy dumping diesel all over the driveway. Thanks.

I'll pull the screen completely out and then use a old tooth brush and some compressed air to clean the screen. As far as the fuel drain, get yourself a piece of 3/8" hose and connect it to the drain pipe where it ends above the front end. Then you can place the hose into a empty quart pop bottle and check to see if there is any water present and not make a mess.
