Help Please.

Are there any fuses to check? The Driver M does not show any and my CD of Fords Repair Manual is at home. It will go with me next time. If someone would be so kind and check.

I started having tps issues last week and could release the Throttle and recover. Having read some posts I bought some contact cleaner at Napa and when I got to the National Park out on an Island south of Pensacola, FL I removed the peddle and drilled a small hole in the end of the side. Left out in the sun to dry and noticed the side at the seam bulge maybe 1/16". Pushed it back together and reinstalled.

Yesterday on my first drive it worked better than ever. No dead spot when first pressing - it has always been that way.

But today idled out of the campground and when I pressed the peddle Nothing. Idled back to the 5er and removed the peddle and the seam was seperated again. Placed a bead of super glue and duct tape. Reinstalled and still nothing.

Checked the codes and: P0122 "Throttle Position (TP) Circuit Low Input"
P0221 "Throttle Switch B Circuit Performance" (Which I had when the problem started). Cleared the codes and started eng again No RPM increase and codes back.

So has anyone taken these TPS's apart and I am thinking that the spring would make it impossable. Any other Ideas.

Sorry so lengthy

Check fuse #45 - it will blow when the OD button wiring shorts out and it renders the TPS inoperative. If that is blown, you might consider unplugging your OD wiring harness until you get it repaired.

Finally have a good internet connection.

The solution was $154 bucks for a new peddle.

Be aware that the replacement tps is a 10 pin connection even though the post Oct 2, 2000 builds have a 5 wire and the other line of 5 pins are blank. The parts guy at ford was even confused and I ended up driving 100 mi rt out of my way to get what we thought was the correct one.

The important think is that it works and I do not even have the dead spot at first peddle push. It was that way from day one.

That used to be a popular mod was to readjust the position the IVS (idle validation switch) to remove that dead spot. I suppose manufacturing tolerances will make every pedal feel a little different.

Glad you got it fixed - sounds like the IVS was stuck.
