I have been trying for months to figure out what was lose or broken underneath that made it sound like someone was banging on the floor under the front seats every time I hit even the smallest bump in the road.
CLUE: the noise was MUCH more noticeable when towing.
I was under the truck a number of times looking at the shock mounts,the drag link and other suspension parts, exhaust system, skid plates and anything else I could get my hands on, all were tight.
Finally noticed (durring the last oil change) the rubber busings (2) on the bigass sway bar behind the front axle were fotball shaped instead of round. Parts were $15 each, and floor banging is a thing of the past.
Just wanted to add this to the "things that go bump under your truck" file, for anyone else that's still looking!

Great detective work! Somebody should put you on the 6.0 research team!
OK, that was harsh - my 6.0 has been pretty good so far. I do have clunks under the floorboard, but I think it's slack in the driveshaft.

Maybe thats my problem, my truck does the same thing but only on the passenger side, i'll have to take a look.

I forgot to mention that the bushings are split, so you do not have to remove the sway bar. Just remove (2) bolts that hold the bushing retainers (I'll call them that for now) and slide off the old ones, replace with new and you'll be in like a tall dog!

Hey Dizzy...glad to hear you found your problem. I posted this exact problem and solution in the Xcursion folder a while back. I could not believe that those 2 little bushings were making so much noise in my front end. My X has been driving extra quiet and smooth for months now. It took me about 5 - 10 minutes to change those out laying under the X in my driveway. My old bushings didn't even look that bad visually...but they were definitely worn out. I have some pics of these bushings on my Webshots link.

Are the Stockers made of plain ole Rubber?

Does anyone make the cool aftermarket neoprene ones?

I understand that the Neoprene ones are popular with the serious
Off-Roaders like the Jeep crowd...

That Jeep thing, I don't understand it? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

I believe the stock bushings are just rubber. Energy Suspension makes the polyurethane bushings. These are the part numbers that I got from a technical rep at their company today.

Energy suspension polyurethane components.

4.5186 Front sway bar bushing and end links. MSRP $57.00
4.7128 Track rod bushing MSRP $32.00

They also make a complete kit that comes with the leaf spring bushings as well that is $311.95 (MSRP).

I don't know if you can get better bushings by them selves, but you can get a complete aftermarket sway bar system.

I have read from many people on this site to stick with the oem bushings. Supposedly, the polyurethane ones tend to get noisy...sqeeking, etc. which was the problem to begin with...thump, thump,thump! Mine lasted over 100K miles...so if my oem replacements last that long for about $15 I'm a happy camper.
