I need to replace the tie rods and center link on the truck. I am not in the position to pay the shop to do this. So, how hard are they to change? What are the steps? Do you need special tools? Will I need to jack the front end up?

I have worked on cars before but I have never done any front end work so any and all help is appreciated.

I just did my ball joints and Outer tie rod. All of this took 2 days. Buy some penetrating oil and soak down all of the tie rods and the center link. pop the tie rods loose by hitting knuckle with a hammer, should take 5 swings. Don't pound the stud. Count revolutions when unscrewing all to get an idea of where the originals were for install. You will need alignment after this. If your ball joints are old they might to be replaced too. You can buy the press tool and return at murrays and autozone. A chilton's manual will help with this. Also, you'll need that bearing nut socket that should also be returnable. hope this helps

if all you have to do is tie rods and center link, it shouldn't take more than a couple hours taking your time. you can rent (for free) a pickle fork (tie rod separator) or the press from your local auto parts place. you shouldn't need an alignment if you can get the thread count to match up and you won't have to get the front tires off the ground

if you have to do balljoints too, thats another ballgame
