I just installed a rebuilt I.P. after 210+ miles and am very happy with the performance gain. The truck has not run this good for years. The timming scribe marks didnt line up by about 45+ deg. I was told to just center the I.P. within its slots a first try until having it timed. It seems to run good now to me. I also just rebuilt the fuel return system, installed glow plugs and new injectors. I turned up the I.P fuel per the Banks turbo manual. I am just conserned that the person doing the timming will touch or disterb one of the fuel return lines and the system will start wheaping again. I have had soooo much trouble with that system that I dont even want to look at it wrong. ( I have replaced the F.R.S. 4-5 times and repaired it more then that since 91)
Also when I replaced the I.P. I found that the bottom two mounting / timming nuts were only finger tight/loose. Very dirty and greasy down there around those loose nuts. I paid to have the truck timed after installing the turbo in 91. Nobody has touched those nus ever since.
did the guy do time it and forget to tighten them ? did they loosen on there own after 200k ? and why were the timing scribe marks lined up as if from the factory ? Seems to me after putting a turbo on the timing marks should not line up anymore.?
So should I risk it, or leave it alone ?
