I just installed a rebuilt I.P. after 210+ miles and am very happy with the performance gain. The truck has not run this good for years. The timming scribe marks didnt line up by about 45+ deg. I was told to just center the I.P. within its slots a first try until having it timed. It seems to run good now to me. I also just rebuilt the fuel return system, installed glow plugs and new injectors. I turned up the I.P fuel per the Banks turbo manual. I am just conserned that the person doing the timming will touch or disterb one of the fuel return lines and the system will start wheaping again. I have had soooo much trouble with that system that I dont even want to look at it wrong. ( I have replaced the F.R.S. 4-5 times and repaired it more then that since 91)
Also when I replaced the I.P. I found that the bottom two mounting / timming nuts were only finger tight/loose. Very dirty and greasy down there around those loose nuts. I paid to have the truck timed after installing the turbo in 91. Nobody has touched those nus ever since.
did the guy do time it and forget to tighten them ? did they loosen on there own after 200k ? and why were the timing scribe marks lined up as if from the factory ? Seems to me after putting a turbo on the timing marks should not line up anymore.?
So should I risk it, or leave it alone ?

A turbo doesn't have any affect on timing. Most likely those bolts were not tightened well by the person doing the work. When I time a truck, I never get near the return lines, so that shouldn't be a concern for you, but then depending on who does it, anything can go wrong. Best to find someone in your area trusted by the collective. Getting it timed accurately is important to gaining the maximum benefit from your investment, and protecting your engine from damage.

Someone just got lazy and didn't try to tighten the hard to reach nuts. It looks like you are in California. If so the shop I have done business with is Diesel Tune in Downey Ca. This is all they work on. I have seen "other trucks in the shop but mainly they work on Fords either IDI or powerstrokes. Opened Monday to Friday only... Darn. Mike works the back room and Dave works the front room. They know these trucks.

SLK,
If you're in the SoCal area we could probably meet up & we could check it.
