Thats not what the numbers mean... For the stock 265/70/17:

265 is the width of the tire in millimeters
70 is the ratio of the sidewall to the width (70 means the sidewall height is 70% of the width)
17 is the wheel size in inches

The wheel width will never be printed on the tire.

The sticker in the drivers side door jamb has all the tire infomation. On my 04 it says 265/75R16 and under that it says 16x7.0 for the wheel size. It also has the recomended tire pressures the fronts and rears.

on a 2005 f250 with 17 inch wheels what are the width...stock weels

[/ QUOTE ]

Wheels are 7.5" wide.

Stock tires LT265/70R17 have a section width of 10.71".

Tire tread width will vary a bit by brand, but should be between the section width and the wheel width when mounted and inflated on proper-size wheels for the tire. For example, in tires size LT265/70R17 a Firestone Transforce HT has a tread width of 8.6" and a Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo has a tread width of 8.2". The Bridgestone Duravis M700 is a new tire with an extra-wide tread width of 10.4", per TireRack.com. But that sounds too wide a tread for that size tire, so it may be an error in the specs.
