I'm a little worried here. I've been running 315's on my stock rims since day one, approximately 135,000 miles. I'm getting sick of the cupping on the front tires and I know I shouldn't be running them but I love the way they look and they are load range "D" which I like. I am getting a new set of bridgestone Revos this week and I am trying to decide between the 265's, load range "E" and the 285's, load range "D". It rides stiff enough as is so I am worried about going with the E's, but I am also worried about cupping the D's since they are a bit wide for the rim. I'm doing more freeway driving going up north to take care of my dad (cancer) so I need to get some miles out of this set. I am pretty stuck on the revo's so no need to bother trying to change my mind about that, I've run just about all the other A/T tires out there so I am giving these a chance. thanks for the input. P.S. No towing or hauling being done with this truck.
P.S.S I just found out I CAN get the 265's in a "D" range but they take a week to get. Still don't know what size to get though. Still looking for opinions.

I have some 265 E's and the ride isn't to bad and I have never had 285 cup on me when using stock rims.

I agree, you should have no problem running the 285's on your factory rims. I assume you are looking at the 285/75R16. The tire has a minimum rim width of 7.5", your stock rims are 7". This will not be a problem as alot of us are running 12.5" tires on 8" factory rims with no cupping problems. Myself I prefer a E rated tire over a D but alot of guys are running D's with no problem, especially as just a daily driver. Probably the most important thing is to use a load/inflation chart for which ever tire size you choose and set your tires pressures according to your particular truck and what you will be using it for, this will help greatly in tire wear and ride comfort.

I ran the 285 for a while but had to keep them rotated regularly at every 5k miles or they would cup or feather the front tires. I went back to 265 (stock) because I could go 10k miles with no tire issues between rotations and with the E rated tire my truck handles a lot better without the rear end filling loose like it did with the D tire. Just my .02.

I had 295s with an agressive tread. Cupped so bad I couldn't stand them. Went with a "normal" tread and no cupping problem. I really think it all depends with how aggresive the tread. I may be off in right field but thats my feelings.

Feather is a very good term to describe what I experience with my front tires. Cupping is after 10:00 P.M. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I know the 265's are the right thing to do, but they look so small. I am really having a hard time with this decision. I am putting on so many more highway miles than I used too, going up north all summer and winter every other weekend at 500 miles a trip, I am really getting sick of slinging all that tire around at 70-80mph and the noise associated with it when they start to wear. What to do..... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Now, I run 325/60R18s (load range E) on my stock 18x8s of my 07 and 38/15.50R20s (load range D) on 20x10s of my 01....both are wider tires than what *should* be on the wheels. And I've adjusted the psi on both to get even tread wear.

I don't have any issues with the tires cupping.

Have you had your truck aligned lately?
How often do you rotate?

I guess I should have said in my original post that I am not very good at maintaining my tires as far as rotations and tire pressure go. I also drive it pretty hard around corners and freeway on ramps. Maybe this is most of my problem. The thing is, I don't see myself changing my ways. I don't have time to do that sort of stuff all the time and I hate someone else touching my truck. I suppost that's why I am going down in size so I can get a set of tires to last a little longer with my lazy habits. It is getting expensive buying new rubber every 30,000 miles, maybe I'll take a little better care of this next set. Still can't decide on which to get, the 285 of the 265. I imagine that the way I drive and maintain my tires, the 265's would hold up better since I am a bit of a corner carver. Planning an alignment after I get the new rubber. I am also running a set of fairly new Bilsteins and a newer steering stabilizer. I just think I am too hard on the tires.

Thanks for your time and help.

The REVO is a very good tire especially for snow and wet roads. But it does require some rotations periodically. Other tires such as the Michelin LTX M/S can get by with less rotations but is not as good in snow or on wet roads. I would go with the 285 REVO. No magic bullets.

Thanks to all that replied, I went with the 285's. I should have them next week sometime, they had to be ordered.

Thanks again, Daryl /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm also planning on going with the 285/75R16 Load "E". My tire place suggested the Nittos. Are there also 305s with load E? What would the tire height be with 305s?

Can't wait to get rid of these current load D 16.5s. Gotta find a set of factory 16" wheels before these tires wear out which won't be long.

The 285's I ordered are load range "D", I don't think they are available in an "E". Either way, I wanted a "D" range tire, it will ride smoother and I am not towing anything. I have towed my 38ft camper to Myrtle Beach from Michigan with my 315's with laod range "D" with no problems. Not suggesting it, I have done it though. I have the Nitto's right now and don't really like them too much for the snow I drive in. They are wearing pretty fast too. Good luck to you.
