Hi gang, it's been a while since I've posted here. I'm itching to get a chip and found an ATS 6 position unit on e-Bay, I'm really tempted. However, since the chip will have to be programed to my computer code, I'm wondering if I should get my PCM flashed to the newer OBDII enabled programs, like on the later 95s and up, or just leave the 94 program alone? It would be cool to actually have the ability diagnose a problem with a scanner or a code reader. However, I wonder who still has the ability to flash a 94 PCM to a 97, or whatever year is best. Also, I've heard that the 94s had a pretty hot program from the factory, but I don't know if this is true or not.
So, what do you guys think?

Thanks,
K.N.

I didn't let the dealer reprogram mine except to enable the OBDII port. I don't know about now but back then the updated program would kill milage. I can verify this because my wifes 94 before we got it am pretty sure was updated and hers doesn't get the milage mine does. BUT it does pull stronger. It's up to you. The only one that can program it is Ford but if thats a 4 page chip the program is on it and overrides the PCM anyway.

This guy. Jodi Tipton. ALOT of people are running his chips and PCM's you will have to take the computer out and send it to him but it will be back in a week. WAY cheaper then the dealer too.

The '94's had a pretty weak program. get it flashed to an MLE1. newest and best manual program, or so Jodi says.

I just had mine reprogramed last Oct. To help with a cold start problem. I am happy with it. Seems to have more power and it did not hurt my mileage any. I also ended up with a little faster idle when the engine was cold and it dropped down as the engine warmed up. Maybe 100 rpm more when cold. This was down at the dealer and it cost an hours labor.

Thanks Partsman, Matt, and Leo for the replies.
The information all sounds good, it seems that the program to get is MLE1. So, I'm guessing most dealers still have the capability to reprogram a 94 to the newer MLE1 program. Also, does anyone have the TSB or bulletin number that I can give to the mechanic, on reflashing a 94, if he thinks I'm crazy.
Keep the good comments coming.

Thanks,

Update to all;
I found that all the dealers I checked in my area either couldn't flash the truck due to equipment problems or just lack of ability. I even gave the dealers the TSB, number 96-3-18.
However, I did send my PCM to DP-Tuner which, thanks to Jody and Diane, gave outstanding, and expedient service, going above what's expected and getting my truck back on the road as fast as possible. If you can't tell, I'm very happy with them and their company.

Hope it helps,
K.N.
