Any opinions? I'm looking for a secure (can't pry it in the middle, can't cut into it), waterproof (as waterproof as can be), removable tonneau cover for my new '08 F350 SWB.

The 3 I'm looking at:
- Fold-a-Cover G4 Elite
- Bakflip HD or G2
- Extang Solid Fold

I am very confused. There are a lot of older comments and reviews but I'm trying to get something recent. Older ones had bad seals, bad hinges, came unglued, etc. Many of these problems appear to have been fixed. Recent purchases would be more applicable.

Thanks in advance.

I just use a Lund Genisis tri fold. It installs in 30 seconds which is good since I carry all kinds of stuff. I had several Restrax covers they are a nice roll up but take up a square ft of the front bed with the canister. About any of them can be damaged or broke into.

Bakflip G2: G2 is better than the old version. But, there have been some G2's that are still falling apart.

Bakflip HD: Too new, no feedback yet.

FoldACover: Been around a long time. Good cover, however, you may need to replace the rubber that covers the piano hinges in a few years.

Solid Fold: No permanent hardware installation, you can completely remove or install the cover in about a minute.

Retrax: Retractable cover made of Lexan. The Lexan slats are smooth and shiney, some people love it, some people hate it. Unlike other retractables, the cover is not spring loaded, so move it into any position and lock it. Retrax is a good cover, however, in my opinion, TruckCoversUSA is the best retractable cover on the market.

Bakflip G2 problem:

FoldACover (but not the better G4 Elite):

Note: The G4 does not have this bulky lock.

Smokin,
Thanks for taking the time to post the photos. I did some looking at the TruckCoverUSA and I guess I don't like the idea of the strap to close it. It also looks like the rails extend into the bed further than the Retrax. Maybe just the photo.

They both look great.

I have a diamond plate one, cant remember the brand off the top of my head. It is pretty tough, supposed to hold 2 four wheelers on it. I know that a bunch of folks can stand on it and it doesn't bend.

I've got a BakFlip G2 also. Had it about 10 months, no problems so far. One hinge section doesnt have locking latches on it, could be pryed up at that location. Nothing is 100% secure. Only complaint I have is I get a flutter at the hinge with no latch when driving in high winds. Fairly water tight as well. Very easy to install and remove if necessary. I really liked the fact it sits completely above the box rails. I've got a 70 gal aux tank from KSH Marine that sits underneath, and the cover doesnt interfere with it at all.

The bakflip is the one I plan on going with. I really like the flush mount as opposed to something sticking up like all the other models have.

Smokin, where are you located? Those pics look like where I found the bakflip....

I have a Bed Locker cover from Pace Edwards and I love it. With the simple push of a button you can have a safe, dry and secure bed or one that is wide open. I had this same kind of bed cover on my 2002 and it went 6 years without any problems. I would have moved it to the new truck, but the cover for the 2008 uses different side rails.

The purpose of the strap is this: If the cover is open all the way and you are standing at the end of the bed, to close the cover, all you have to do is pull the strap. It's very convenient. However, there are a few retractables that are optionally electric such Pace Edwards and Retrax.

The aluminum diamond plate cover might be DiamondBack.

The Pace Edwards Full Metal is similiar to the TruckCoversUSA in that they are both make of black powdercoated aluminum. The construction is very different though. The TCUSA is double-walled aluminum interconnecting slates and can hold over 500 pounds. The PE is not double-walled and the slats are connected with rubber. It can hold about 200 pounds. Also, the Retrax is rated at 200 pounds.

I have had the Access rollup on my 2008 for over a year, and had one on my 2002 for 5 years. Access rollup is the best setup if you live in any kind of winter weather. Anything else will freeze up and it won't slide. Also, I had mine in 125 degree Arizona to -30 Wyoming and tons of snow. When I need to use the pickup bed, I just roll it up.
