I have been noticing people on here worrying about milage under a 100k. My truck is an early 99 and has 270ish on it. Should I not be trying to get some extra power out of it? Everything seems to be working real good on it so far. I already did the tymar style intake, got a 80hp ebay chip it the mail(all I can afford right now), and on the 15th it is getting a pieced together 4" straight pipe to the back. I'm I approaching this all wrong? I've been under the impression these are real strong engines. Also Its a dually with a manual tranny. If that means anything.

No but really is there any steps I should take beforehand? Gauges are on the list so far.

I think these engines, properly maintained, should acheive 500k+. Oil analysis should be a good indication of engine condition before and after the mods.

Get a baseline oil analysis with your next oil change before your mods. Then have your oil tested after the mods. This should give you piece of mind.

Ditto the gauges. Preturbo EGT a must.
