I'm in the market for a tool box for the bed of my truck. A buddy of mine recently bought a UWS and one of the pistons broke and the handles don't latch anymore and it's only 6 months old. Who makes the best boxes? Dee Zee?

I bought my box from Tractor Supply, three years and no problems.

Tractor Supply Company should have a 10% coupon on their site for e-mail subscribers for July 4th week (not yet up there, obviously). Holding off myself until then to buy one from them. They seem to have a very good selection, but their web site sucks, so it's much better to see what is in stock at your local store then have them call around if necessary based on the part number.

I have one for sale (USED WEATHERGUARD BOX). I am in NC....if you want one from tractor supply then I would not get a DEE ZEE but a Weatherguard. I had a DEE ZEE box and the locking device messed up and fell out. I know the local Tractor Supply carries weatherguard too and they are a better box. I personally have a Cam Locker which I LOVE the way that it locks down. The Cam Locker has a carpet inside and this keeps the box from getting all that aluminum junk all over whatever is in the box. This was the main reason I got the Cam Locker. If I were going to buy something again, I would buy the Cam LOCKER, then a Weatherguard, or UWS box. Just my experience with the boxes I have had.

I would go with Weatherguard. TSC carriers them now but if you are in the NE, they have a contractor supply store with stock within 50 miles of anywhere. go to www.weatherguard.com and use the dealer locator feature. I worked for them a lifetime and can tell you they put out a great product.
I should add: you get what you pay for. The product they sell under Weatherguard brand at TSC and other 'warehouse' stores are of a lower quality, hense the cheaper price. Still a good value. But if you go to a contractor supply off the website, you will get a better box, and chances are they can do a better job with any warranty issues. Good luck

I have 2 Dee Zee side mounts in my bed, and they haven't held up too well... lifts are worn out, locking mechs seized, and the "diamond plate' finish is dulling. They looked nice for a couple of years, though.

I may go with this box: Weather Guard

Part #: WG121-5-01

It's pricy but I hope it will last and that I'll be able to use it on the next truck I buy. My buddy has a UWS and the pistons broke and the latches that lock the box also broke. He only paid $385 for his. I guess you get what you pay for.

I have six Weather Guard boxes mounted in the bed of my truck. The boxes are 7 years old and the hardware and seals are as good as new. The boxes seal air tight- literally. My boxes are aluminum and my only complaint is that the finish bubbled some after a couple of years but they still look good.

The top of the line are Weatherguard and RKI (Rawson-Koenig). They are expensive but you won't be disappointed.

Good bang for your buck is UWS. I realize one of you had a problem, but they are still good boxes.

That model 121 looks good. Its a new style. The rise from the body is shorter than the older model for a lower profile, and the locks are rear facing instead of side facing. I think it would serve you well. I havent worked there since 2001 and it was nice taking a look back. I have a 2001 model R-116 and I really have to watch it with my 5er when turning. The low profile should take care of that. Also, I can tell that you are looking at their dealer Industrial Ladder. They will back up any warranty issues 100%. Good luck!

Hmm, maybe I should have gone with the low profile one, but went for the regular one to be able to use the side pockets. White Cap Construction Supply was only $515 locally for the 127-5-01 (black aluminum) with same price for regular aluminum, can't touch that price anywhere else. Picking it up in two days. Thought I'd share if others are looking.

The welds on the corners, rubber gaskets, ratcheting locks, and extreme thickness of aluminum in comparison sold me on WeatherGuard. There was a UWS right next to it, there was a huge difference! Can literally stand on top of the WeatherGuard.

The reason I went with the low profile was my 5'er. I tow it every day and need to jacknife it alot. Although, I really would have liked the added storage over the bed rails.

Once again, I'm glad I posted, otherwise I probably never would have bought a Weatherguard. I'd rather buy a quality box that I'll have for a long time and not get frustrated with if anything on it fails me.

I've had 2 Weatherguard boxes in 20 years and would never own anything else. IMHO I would go with white or black steel. NOT aluminum.I've seen too many aluminum boxes clear coat peeling off.

I will agree that the camlockers have the best locking mechanism because the whole handle turns to lock the box and it is very easy to use. Very nice box and I will buy another one if I need to.
