I feel a little tapping under the floorboard at slow speeds and continues while sitting at idle. Is this warning me that the TC is going? It seems like I read that somewhere. If so, what is the best value TC available for a stock truck. I dont need to race it, just want something to be strong. My tranny still feels great, shifts smooth and all. How much more life can I expect out of the tranny if I replace the TC? Would a TC keep it from failing as I have heard that they are usually the culprit for the failure anyway?
Thanks,
Rusty

Does the sound go away when the TC is locked up?

I am doubtful that your TC would make a "tapping" feel/sound...

I would get under the truck with it idling and track the sound down...

My TC was rattling when unlocked, I don't recall any tapping.

A factory rebuild 4R100 TC from Ford would work well for you and the price is right.

I will check it out more tomorrow but yeah theres a tapping right under my feet even while sitting at a stop light at idle. Its consistent with RPM's so at normal driving speed its mostly un-noticeable. The only thing that is spinning or revolving in that vicinity is the TC that I can think of. Has anyone had this feeling under their feet before? Thanks for the advice on which one i should get. So you know about how much that would run me by chance? Just the part, not labor.

The TC is less than $200 from Ford. I paid $150 for my 6.0 TC.

You might want to make sure that nothing is actually making contact with the frame or the firewall or fender..... . Obviously you've seen how much these motors move at idle, and if there was something physically rubbing the firewall or hitting the framrail you would feel it in your feet. I've never heard of a failure, but might want to take a little look at tranny mounts and motor mounts. With it at idle you could also take a look at the motor and see if it seems to be moving to much, then have a friend put it in gear and load it a little to see if there's to much movement from forward to reverse. Just a thought.

My torque converter makes aweful noises when under load or WFO. Really sounds bad, like rocks in a can, when getting on the onramp with the peddle to the floor. Didn't realize how loud it was until I had my window down. Mostly does it when shifting or before lockup.
Would this be a sign of going bad. Truck has 53k miles and I know there was a TSB on the TC. Im sure its a little late to have it changed now. Any thoughts.

thanks

The 6.0 TorqueShift TC is that from the newer 6 litre diesel? Whats the advantage of it over what my stock TC is? Thats seems like a very reasonable price though. Thanks for the info.

Its got a little thicker lid with higher torque handling capability and a lower stall speed...Click on "my gallery" in my signature and you can see some of the photos from the install...personally if your truck is stock or close to it the new 4R100 TC is a great replacement. You need to identify the sound your truck is making first...your TC might be okay.

Cheers
