OK, Its dark, Im in a hurry, thinking maybe my filter is plugged or has water so I pulled open the yellow tab, heard gurgling, hear stuff hit the ground and closed it.
1. In the morning how much of my truck will I see covered in fuel?
2. How long should I have left it open?
3. Wont that cause a big air bubble when its started again?

I sound like an idiot. These strange things that burn salad dressing still are Greek to me.

And while Im being stupid, if the oil stick shows just under the normal full area, is that only one quart? Should these things burn oil too? Its only been 1,000 miles since change.

You will be just fine on the fuel draining (the motor will not be covered in fuel). You only need to leave it open for a few seconds. You won't get a big air bubble if you just turn on the key and wait about 5 seconds for the fuel pump to fill up the filter housing before actually starting the truck. Do you know if the dip stick was actually higher before you checked it and did you wait awhile after shutting the motor off before checking it? You need to give the oil some time to get back down into the oil pan.

The 'hose' doesn't extend very far at all down the block. Easiest way to find it is open your bowl, crawl under the truck, and see where it's coming out. You can put an extension on it easily and it won't be so messy.

Why open the valve to see where the line is? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bleh.gif Just turn your
wheels to the right and look under your right wheel well. The drain line is right inside and close to the engine block. Run a fuel hose with clamp so emptying is easier. Also read your owners manual on how to check proper fluid levels. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif

Hey Marvin, Put a piece of fuel line on the metal drain tube from the filter bowl and then you can drain your fuel into a container with no mess. I use a glass mason jar to look at what comes out. On the oil I only put in 14 quarts with filter change and it stays there. Some have reported when they put in 15 quarts they lose one fairy quick. We still need to get together. Have a good 4th.

Marvin, don't sweat the quart low thing (1/2 way down the hatches) mine loses the first quart in about 1000 miles, then doens't lose oil at all until I change it next. I think the first quart blows out the CCV. 15 quarts is just too much for the truck. I have just gotten into the habit of filling 14 quarts and leave it 1-quart low according to the dipstick, so I don't lose any oil. Completely normal.
