Ok guys I need to get this thing fixed before I go crazy with this dang beeping and trailer dissconnect messsage.

My 05 seems to have a tow command system that keeps beeping everytime I slow down with my trailer and will keep doing it untill I reach speed and it will stop.

Now my 05 is one of the ones that you cant lock the brakes with the manual lever unless your over 10-15mph.

I have replace the trailer cord and intall new complete brakes on the first axle and soldered all the wires. Checked grounds and replaced them anyways to make sure. Everything else works great all lights work fine. Its got to be in the trailer brakes or the tow command system but need to find out if anybody else has this problem or has fixed it. Plese help my sanity depends on it. Thanks Matt

Never had this issue with mine. If you go to any camper or trailer sales outlet they should have a tool they can plug in to your connector that will tell you if it is the truck or the trailer.

Best thing to do is tow another trailer with a braking system that is known to be good. If your truck acts up again, bet on the TBC being faulty. If it doesnt, look towards the trailer. 9 times out of 10 a bad ground will really screw up the operation of the TBC.

I understand your frustrations. I was towing a pretty heavy load recently and having the same issue and luckily I was able to correct the problem on the side of the road. My friend who was towing behind me with an 02 7.3 with a Prodigy pointed out the only way he would have found out things werent working correctly whether it was the truck or the trailer is when it may be too late. So I am actually glad that feature is built into the factory controller. I do not like the inability to lock up the controller manually under 15mph. I got so used it to test my brakes with it when I used to use a Prodigy before a steep downgrade. It is challenging to trust the factory controller in those situations.

I don't know if this is true but someone said the dealer can reprogram it so it will work at any speed .

I'm going to call dealer tommorrow and ask. I don't know if they know for sure but I quess I got to start there first.

Maybe they can replace the controller with a newer one ?

I just got done replacing all 3 axles brakes and rewiring it all the way to the front. If it still does it I'm going to go nuts .

I would like to be able to manually check them like you said so If I find out anything more I will post back.

Try running a ground wire between your trailer and the truck. Some trailers depend on the hitch to make the ground conection. A little rust or dirt can foul the hitch grounding abillity. Thats why it works some times and not others.

The ground for the trailer brakes runs all the way to the front and is connected to the 7way cord. Its got a good ground no problem there. I soldier all the connections and replaced the 7way to make sure . I've done everything that could be done so if it still does it I know its a truck thing and not my trailer. What I need to find is someone close that has the Tow Command and hook to my trailer to make sure.

Mine is going in for the leaky tranny tomorrow. I am going to ask about the trailer brakes to see if they can make them work at less than 10mph. It sure would make me feel better towing in the mountains if I could manually grab the trailer brakes at lower speeds to test them. I will post up what they say.

Asked about IBC not working under 10-15 mph today and at first my Service advisor tried to tell me I didnt have the adjustment correct. What a bunch of crap. Then he finally admitted that he has heard this complaint before and agreed to look at it. Knowing my luck they will want me to pay for it. I explained that I felt it was dangerous. Not sure if that will help or not. I will find out the verdict tomorrow.

The books says a trailer fault is generated by either a short to ground or a short to voltage in the braking system. A short to voltage could be coming from the breakaway battery. Try disconnecting the battery and see if the problem goes away. Naturally, you don't have breakaway protection while testing this, so be careful.

I had so many things little things addressed at the dealer today and a few problems I wont get into that I forgot to ask my service advisor what he found out. Obviously he forgot too, cuz he didnt mention anything about it either. I will try to call him tomorrow and see what he came up with.

The dealer replaced my IBC with one for an 06 and that was the only way to correct the locking-up under 15 mph. They could not reprogram it they had to replace with a late 05 or 06-newer IBC.
My dealer did it on his dime because Ford said it was functioning as designed so no warranty to replace.

I've had a fair amount of customers with 05 specific trucks that have had bad units on their trucks. It sends some voltage, but not complete.

I'm still trying to find a diagram on how everything is wired from the plug to the tow command to make trouble shooting them a bit easier.

Any time I have a complaint of this nature, I get the same response from my service advisor. He always tells me that there is nothing he can do for me. It gets pretty frustrating. I moved recently and I think next time I am going to try a different dealer.

I had the same intermitent "Trailer Disconnect" after we bought our new 5er. All the mechanics said there was nothing wrong with the trailer and I should go back to the Ford dealer. As a last try, we hooked to another simmilar trailer and the problem went away. The RV mechanic went back into the brakes and found a loose wire on 2 hubs where the wire got pinched and would ocassionally short to the frame. He fixed the wires and the brake controll problem went away.
