Took a trip last night and towed a Nissan pickup on a car trailer. Man this thing is awesome!!! It pulls excellent throughout the RPM range (plenty of torque on the low end and tons of it on the high end). She pulls so much better than she did before. EGT's are a little higher when I'm lugging her than before the new turbo, but they are cooler on the top end. Thumbs up to the guys at Black Widow Diesel /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Brett-what air filter do you have? We have seen some better performance with a high flow filter, like an AFE II. You can also get some performance gain with the high flow outlet if you aren't using the EBV as a brake.

Glad you got it in and working.

Thanks

I just have a drop in high flow style air filter and I don't use the EBV for a brake. I think I'm gonna go for exhaust and intake next (after the bank account recovers).

I went from an AIS with the fender sleeve to an AFE II. Bunting told me there would be a noticeable difference, and I must say I was skeptical that I would notice any improvement. However I ate my words, the turbo spool was vastly improved and the filter minder was no longer pulling to half way. Money well spent.

Oh yeah forgot to mention that. I was absolutely never able to get the turbo to surge /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif! Trust me, I definitely gave it every opportunity.

It was only around 6,000 lbs, but I was able to get surge even running empty before the turbonetics.

Hey, I think I'm gonna go with a Turbonetics. What kind of preasure are you seeing verses a stock unit? If I goe this route I'm going all out, new pedistal, outlet housing, and maybe some ceramic coated up pipes. My pipes are looking bad. Also how loud is it commpared to a stocker? I've heard people say a stock turbo with a ATS housing and WW will make your ears split. I don't have a problem with noise, I drive alot on the hyway and love the big trucks. You can hear the drivers roll into the throtal when thier cimbing hills, sounds way cool. I've noticed my seems quiet even with the 4 inch exhaust, and the intake. My turbo looks like it ate some dirt at one time, one of the fins is missing a little peice, and the thing just looks beat to death.Let me know I'd apreciate any info, you guys are really knowegable Thanks a lot

Pressures across the board are higher (maybe because my turbo has been shot for a long time). I was getting about thirty max when I was really standing on it while towing. Compared to the stocker there is more whistle (especially when the boost comes up), but it is not annoying and no where near as loud as the 6 liters I've heard. The turbo spool is a little faster but is still not instant (if that is what you are expecting). Oh yeah and remember, no turbo surge whatsoever!

[/ QUOTE ]Hey you folks in the Northwest cannot compare your experience to the local environment here in the Midwest. I can tell you that at certain times of the year there is a mushroom cloud of dirt/dust in the air. Perhaps there are regional differences in the effectiveness of different air filters. I spent 34 years of my life in the Northwest and I can tell you your air is much cleaner (even with the influx of Californians) than here with the regular fronts coming in off of the Pacific.
