I pull a big 32' equipment trailer full of music instruments and props for my sons high school band and competitive percussion ensembles. My truck, while well maintained, is a potential failure point that might stop the equipment from reaching a competition. What options are out there to move a 10,000 lb trailer 500 or so miles on short notice if the pulling rig had a tranny or engine failure that could not be rapidly repaired?

Is it a 5er or a bumper pull?

Just about every tow truck will have a set of hitch balls that attach to the wheel lift. If push comes to shove, they can move the trailer to the event for you.

Failing that, I would develop a list of other parents, school faculty or friends of friends who have a suitable tow rig.

Maybe get ahold of the Ford dealer in your area and explain the issue -- maybe they would let you have an extended test drive of one of the used trucks on the lot -- if worst comes to worst. Tax write-off for them and still gets the job done... plus they get to be seen as the dealership who saved the day.

You can call any of the RV transport companies

They usually have hundreds of trucks on the road and are always looking for "back hauls". They can usually get someone to you pretty quickly. All are set up to haul 5th or bumper hitch and many can do a goose.

If you want a list, including the company I drive for, send me a PM.
