I have the adjustable towing mirrors, the ones that you can pull out to extend and push back in.

Is there a way to disassmble the mirror itself and shorten the posts that they slide on?

My garage door is 2" wider than the mirrors when they're pushed all the way in. Although I can get in and out, if I could shorten them another 1-1/2" on each side (the amount of exposed post) that would make it alot easier.

My only alternative is to fold one of them in when pulling in and out of the garage, which works but is a pain.

thanks for any ideas.

The arms inside the mirrors have special bends/cutouts to allow for the various clips and stuff to lock into place and hold the entire mirror in place.

To shorten the mirror, you would need to cut the CENTER out of the arm, and then weld it back together so that your ENDS remain correct.

Downside is, you lose EXTENSION also. I personally wish my passenger mirror would go OUT about a 1/2" more!!

Easy fix? Roll down the driver window and pull the mirror in against the door. I think modifying the mirrors are going to be more work than its worth.

Don't start cutting them up, that'll look like heck. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
These TT mirrors are swing-in, Meaning they pivot against the truck door (manually) if you need space.
Most Super Dutys I've seen are transported that way, I pull mine in (driver's side only) all the time if I'm navigating tight alleys, etc.
They click right back out into position when its all clear.
~or~

Swap on a set of the OEM paddle mirrors unless you know you'll be towing~ (then swap them back out)
It's 4 easily accessible 7/16" nuts on each side that hold them on.
The mirrors are easy to find and work good with some fisheye cheaters.

~just a thought.

I kind of think the '99's (early) dont have as long a arms as the extendable ones. I got a set of '99 out in the shed I'll check them out. '99's dont slide in and out like the 2000's and up
