Is it advisable to tow a travel trailer with the cruise control on in an 05 F250 6.0 automatic? I have been doing this with a trailer of about 5000lbs. and it seems to be fine, but I'm looking at a larger trailer and am wondering if I pushing my luck with excessive downshifts or other problems.
Thanks

I personally do not like to use cruise control when towing, that is unless I am on a flat long stretch. If the terrain is rolling or otherwise challenging, I think the prudent use of the old foot on the pedal is the wiser choice. My opinion. Some cruise controls especially on some of the more expensive Japanese and German vehicles are very adaptive and accurate, however on most trucks they can be aburpt overractive and in my opinon place unnecessary stain on the drivetrain. You just have to learn your truck and how it wants to operate.

Everything is ok with cruise control while towing as long as you do it with tow/haul. I do it all the time at 30k. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif the computer knows better!!

On anything other than real flat ground I find it does a lot of shifting. The old tow-haul mode of 2003 (before the re-flash) was excellent in holding gears AND TC lock up. After the flash and in the 2004 and 2005 the TH mode is a joke. Just touch the peddle and the TC locks and un-locks. Cruise makes it worse.

Heh... Bring your truck up here, we'll upload the old software using our new WDS System. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Mines OK, depends on the truck.

I wish they would fix it... after they flashed mine about 6 months ago due to a recall the shift points on the tranny changed in tow/haul mode and it hunts a lot on small rolling hills.

Hate it, hate it, hate it.

It should be smart enough to open the shift points a little more when in cruise mode and towing...

Grrrrrr....
