I've got about 65K on my Job 2 truck right now - and I'm on my third set of these sensors in the wheels!? Anyone else have any issues with these!? It seems that the band comes apart and then the sensor itself will become a projectile inside the tire. Not good. Really messes up the balance on that tire and the light comes on the dash. I had a couple replaced when it was under the 36K general warranty. I've replaced all 4 at least once at my expense and at least one more came off the other day. Its at the dealer now. They say that this is a common problem especially on the larger diameter truck wheels. I've got the factory 20's w/ factory size tires. Anyone else seen these issues!?

I don't buy the line that it's a "common problem". It's just a BS line that they're using to make you go away. Ford would not manufacture something that is problematic especially if it comes down to safety. Do you know how many vehicles on the road have TPMS these days? It's so common, that it's not possible for it to be a "problem".

Take it to another dealership, because they're obviously not getting it right.

What we see as a problem.... whoever demounts or mounts the tire is (I was going to say an idiot but I don't want to be chastised) poorly trained and likely to remain poorly trained. We have had no problems with sensor retension other than fools.

I can't be sure if it is your tire store... your dealer or whoever... somebody is blowing smoke up your pants.

FWIW, I have signs all over our tire machine reminding the guys to watch our for these sensors.... the signs don't always work 8^(

How do I know if I have the sensors. When I start the truck I get the bulb check. I have experimented with one tire - let air out of it to 40 psi and then started the truck. In doing this I did not get a flat tire light.

You won't get the light immediately. Drive around the block for a few minutes and you'll get the indicator if you have the TPMS. Or call your dealership. They should be able to look it up for you.

I've had my issues with this system. This fall I had a badly cut tire. Could not get it off the hub to mount the spare! (There's another thread about this problem) Aired tire to 80 psi, loaded my compressor and generator in the truck, and headed to the tire shop (100 miles away) TPMS light came on 10 miles away from shop, I got out just to check pressure - it was 50 psi. So even though system called for 80 psi the warning did not trigger until 50 psi. I have verified this one other time - don't ask how come!

That's strange. In October I rented a Chevy Blazer and it had the TPMS on it and the way I knew it worked was when I went to start it one morning and the TPMS light came on first thing - and yes one tire was low. Chevy must use a diffrent type of warning system.

My coworker has a 08 Mustang and the same thing there, right at startup the light went on. One tire was 3 psi low on that.

I guess there is a different scenario for all of us.:werd:

I don't disagree - I've had experience with two other vehicles from two different manufacturers accurately warn for low pressure on the mornings first start up! On the other hand I drove the same truck new off the lot with the TPMS sensors missing for 3 days before a warning was flashed! (another story but indicative of the issue with Ford's system!)

I like the TPMS on my wife's Tahoe LTZ it actually works and tells you the exact pressure is EACH tire not just a light if 1 goes low. If your going to have a TPMS in a truck why not make it useful like this one???
