I think I have found the source of my rattle in the door area -- appears to be the weatherstrip, trim, or whatever it is that mounts on the inside leading edge of the back (crew cab) doors, vertical strip along the flat inside edge that covers the gap between the doors at the window level. (wow, if that wasn't a crappy run-on sentence). Still not sure if anybody will know what I'm talking about...

Is there any trick to dealing with this little strip other than just removing it?

Thanks in advance,
Iz

I found the following info posted on RV.net last fall. I haven't tried it yet, but plan to soon, because I have the same problem:

If you do have a crew cab, there actually is a piece of molding that is sort of on the outside of the door... it is inbetween the front and rear doors, attached to the forward edge of the rear door, extending from the top to about half way down the door, just below the greenhouse.

It is a hard plastic molding, that is attached by plastic rivets. The fact that the molding is hard plastic, and the fact that is positioned at ear height, and the fact that it is situated in the gap between the doors, makes any noise coming from this piece very audible.

It was a common complaint amoung Ford Superduty Crew Cab owners between 1999 and 2002. The under warranty fix was to get a new piece with new rivets. The out of warranty fix was to obtain the gray colored 3M Automotive double stick foam tape from a body shop, and tuck in thin strips behind the molding to take away any play or possible movement, which effectively eliminated the rattle.

Had to post up, THANKS!!!

I pulled the outer rubber piece off, cleaned both sides as well as the door, installed about a 1" strip of 3M double side tape at the very top, and the rattle is GONE! Just need to do the same thing to the wife's side.
