A friend of mine was hauling a swather the other day and wasnt paying attention, the head hit one of those speed screens( the little trailers with the board that says how fast your going), would those things happen to have cameras on them? I told him to go to the P.D. and tell them but he wont, the problem is he was using my trailer, so does it take pictures? Also it was at night so if they did have a cam, could they tell? Sorry, this is kind of OT but i didnt know where else to ask.

if he was speeding, and it was photo radar the flash would go off at night and your picture would be taken. I doubt this happened though, most of those little things are just read/display units. I wouldn't be able to not say anything if I had hit it, but you gotta do what your conscious dictates, good luck.

If he thought he hit it he should have called 911 and reported it ASAP. At this point I would suggest he not be aware of hitting anything. Mabye drive same route looking for whatever caused dent in swather.
Best thing is report it ASAP. Just think it might have been damaged so next car hit the bulk of it (with no warning lights to warn them)

Stroker, I agree with Larry. Do the old Sgt. Schultz impression, "I know nothing! I saw nothing!". You really don't know what he hit, if anything, and if your trailer is undamaged, why would you look into it any further. I do think the "right" thing was for him to report it ASAP just in case his inattention created a safety hazard for motorists following him.

Regardless, video and/or still cameras are options on most "speed trailers". Most jurisdictions don't pay for that option until someone vandalizes or, "hit skips" one. I'd say you should be safe, unless someone hit that trailer before. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Good Luck, bOOmer

In Glendale,AZ Someone stole one and the police were looking for it and I dont know if it was ever found yet. I doubt it had a camera. Its just there to slow down traffic and let teenagers know how fast their car can go. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif

How fast was he going /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif Did the trailer have it's "parking" lights on? Was it in the "traveled portion" of the road? How far out does a 'swather' hang? It is too late to do anything now.

Well 15yrs ago (at least) I pulled one on a trailer made for it. The swather was 15' cut... So I figure total width was 16'6" area. I would NOT pull that at night/bad conditions. It was centered behind pickup so figure sticking out 5' wider on each side. (aprox) The rear wheel(s) were on road. (they were on swivels) So if he was in his lane and radar thing on shoulder I can see how he hit it. (wonder how many mailboxes he hit?) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I pulled it ~80 miles and told my mom that I had hit only ONE mailbox. She got so upset/threatened to call Police if I did not go back/fix/tell owner. I said I knew the owner and he was a mean SOB. Well mom demanded so I looked at dad (who had figured it out) And said. "I guess I nicked your mailbox when I came in yard." Mom was so mad I almost had to leave right there. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well, when I was growing up, my Dad impressed on me that if you do something wrong, you own up to the fact along with any financial responsibilities and then go about life. You do not try to shirk or hid that you have done something wrong.

What is it with people today. Last year I had a co-worker slam a door into my car and caused a $500.00 crease in the fender that I had to foot the bill for. No one ever came forward to own up to the mistake.

So, tell your friend to grown up, act like a man and accept the responsibility for his mistake. I'm sick and tired of paying for other peoples mistakes out of my pocket.
