I need to find the location of the relay that controls the battery charge line. I have studied the owners manuel and it calls the relay by numbar but has no photo of its location, I have a 01 F250 and there are two sets of relay's next to the power dist. box under the hood but I can't tell if any of these are the one that I want. I will be thankfull for any help. Thanks

If you are talking about the small box with two relays in it next to the main underhood fuse box, you found it. One of the relays is battery charge and the other is for the brake controller.

The owners manual should call out the locations of all fuses and relays.

Thanks for the reply. There are two boxs by the power dist box under the hood. One is between the dist box and the brake cylinder and one next to the air box. Can you tell me which of this is the trailer charge relay? Thanks

I believe it is the one next to the main distribution box, unfortunately I do not have a 01 or 02 to look at to confirm this. As far as binks444psd's question, that should be the charge and trailer brake relays. It should be in your manual usually on the next page or two after the inside fuse number guide.

The easiest way to check the relays is on a working circuit. Pull the suspected relay and the headlamp or horn relay. plug the suspected relay in the horn or headlamp relay socket. Does the horn or headlights still work? If not, the relay is bad. Also check the charge circuit fuse with continuity tester. Sometimes fuses can be broken internally and you can not tell by looking. While you have the fuse out, look and make sure that both of the wire connectors for the fuse are still visible in the fuse box. Sometimes they get pushed out the bottom of the fuse box.

OK, Thanks all, I will check out the relays that are next to the Dist Box and go from there.

Thanks for all the help. It helped my find the correct relay. It is the front relay of the two that are between the brake booster and the power dist box. I pulled the relay and checked for voltage on the pins in the mount and then pulled the fuse for the battery charge and and then installed a fuse tap on the switched side of the relay and now the radios turn on and off with the key, but only when it is turned to run, but who would run a 100 watt radio with out the engine running anyway!
