2000 F-350 drw, 7.3, 6 speed, just rewired my trailer and added some side markers and also wired backup lights on the trailer. Used it today and of course it was raing all day but it has blown the #4 fuse 2x's today, it is in the fuse box under the hood. Is this due to to much load with the extra lights, or coming from the backup lights. they only come on when the truck is in reverse. Or could the rain be shorting something out. Thanks for any help.

It could be the backup lights. Do you have the trailer towing package? If you do then you have a seperate relay feeding your backup lights through the 7-pin connector. If you have your backup lights on the trailer wired up to your truck back up lights then you could very well be overloading the circuit. You will either have to use the trailer towing package relay or install a relay to feed the trailer backup lights if you don't have a towing package.
I don't have anything in front of me to tell me what fuse is #4. What are you loosing when the fuse blows. Is it just backup lights or are you loosing marker or stop lights. If you are loosing marker or stop lights when the fuse blows then you are having a short somewhere.

Re: trailer lights keep blowing fuses

I do have the trailer tow package and it is run through the 7 pin plug, When I tested the plug, the center pin is the one powering the backup lights. When it blows all the marker lights quit also.

Sounds like a dead short. i would start isolating lights one by one until you figure out which one it is.

Re: trailer lights keep blowing fuses

I bought 2 actual reverse lights, and they are wired to the reverse light wire on my 7 prong. they only work when my truck is in reverse, they work great because of lighting up behind the trailer when backing at night

Re: trailer lights keep blowing fuses

Which lights are burning at the time the fuse blows? Are you in the process of backing up or just going down the road with your marker lights on. Does the fuse blow when you use a turn signal or hit the brakes and activate the stop lights? We need more info on just what you are doing at the point the fuse goes.

When the fuse does blow, what lights do you still have? And what lights won't work?
