I'm sure it's been asked before but I'm new here. SOOOOO I have a 1990 f250 with a towing package. I don't have alot of $ and want to know if a brake controller can just be plugged into the pre-wiring or do I have to actualy pay someone to hook it up for me?

I want to save money but safety has top priority.

On my 94, the plug was a small square one with four wires going to it right under the ashtray.

Yes, it's just fine to plug it in there.

You should be able to find a cheap controller for about $50 or so. I have a used one if you want it.
