Lately I've been having some unusual symptoms from my truck. Yesterday, on a 300 km trip they became more apparent.

When I'm driving on the highway at 80 kms per hour, and the transmission shifts into overdrive, I get a vibration. When I turn off the over drive, thus increasing the RPM's it stops. Similarly at 60 kms per hour, if the engine is just "lugging", it vibrates, but when the RPM's are higher, it doesn't.

My buddy mechanic assures me its not U-Joint issues and says probably tranny/TC.

The truck has 235,000 kms on the clock and I got it at 135,000kms and have done no tranny work on it since I bought it. I dunno what may have been done before.
The tranny fluid is clean and sweet smelling.

What do you guys think it might be?

Thanks

I think torque converter. Mark Kovalsky is a forum member and a Ford transmission engineer (or was). He will probably respond as soon as he visits TDS again. Maybe you could search his name and shoot him an e-mail.

Thanks for the quick reply and the suggestion...

I'll give him a couple of days to respond.

It sounds more like an engine problem than a trans problem to me. An engine miss will produce these exact symptoms.

Hmmm.. maybe I better take it to the dealership and let them put it on a machine.,..
The problem for me is, that there isn't a diesel expert in my home town. My mechanic buddy won't even look at injectors and he knows he hasn't got the tools nor the skills to deal with this issue.

What I really need is a definitive diagnosis.

I gotta find someone in the Toronto area who is good at diagnosis and is honest.

If you folks know anyone up here, please let me know.

Thanks

Well, once again this place helped me a lot.

I started by looking for a long time poster here in Canada... and discovered BD Diesel. I phoned them and they recommended someone close by - Steve's Diesel, in Bowmanville, Ontario.. about 1 hour's drive away.

I made an appointment and went there this morning, bright and early.

Andy put it on a tester and discovered that it was #8 injector as bad.

So, we got that fixed along with a few more items that he found...

Here's the totals:

Injector - $399.00
Back pressure sensor - $125.00
Fuel filter - $45.69
Air Filter - $42.50
Scanner Charge - $50.00
Enviro Cleaner - $15.95
Enviro/ Material - $13.95

Labor 3 hours $300

Sales taxes $128.97

Total $1,121.06

So, now my truck is ready to go for the summer, towing, and so on, and I'm grateful to you guys for your help.

When I had my problem I had someone scan the codes for me and came up with #8, drivers side, I pulled the valve cover and started the truck. Stared unpluging the injectors one at a time untill I found the bad one. As a buddy had a extra injector he took out of a bad motor he gave it to me and I replaced it and all is well. Took all of about 2 hours to r&r the injector and run it down the road for a test run.

Yes it was #8 for mine as well.... The mechanic said something about it being closest to the exhaust, it gets a lot hotter.

Glad you had a buddy to help with yours, I don't have the skills myself and so, I pay...
