Hey guys, I'm new to the forums here - there is soo much great info to be found!

Question about the tranny on my 7.3 (2001PSD). If driving down the freeway around 70-75 or so if I push the OD off and the engine really offers no engine braking at all (it does seem to with OD on though). It's been like this since I've owned the truck and all shifting is great, no slipping and what not. I'm just curious because when I drive my wife's 6.0l with the torq shift I really like the way the tranny holds down my load.

Thanks for any info!

Yes, the one in question is my 01. It seems to go to idle speed pretty mush when OD is off. When I downshift to 1st and 2nd I can feel it downshift but the engine RPMs pretty much just drop down to idle (od on or off in this case). It seems the only time off throttle it holds the engine idle up is in OD. The tranny has about 40k on it from ford right now and everything else is great. In OD at 70 if I let off the RPMs do not drop down much at all.

Thanks again!

Could this be caused by getting rear-ended? I never noticed it before but I've only had the truck back from the shop a few days... Some guy in a nissan sentra wanted to see my 8" drop hitch up really close... Anyways he hit me at about 25mph or so.

Thanks again!!

Damn - that means I've gotta pay the bill /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif . I'm assuming this would be something that it's gotta be pulled and torn down to fix, right? If so, would it be just worth going through the whole tranny or getting something like a BTS tranny?

Thanks again for the advise!

just have to pull it and take the pump out. I would reccommend a suncoast drum, has double capacity and the snap ring will not blow out. While you are there for sure put an o/d spirolock ring on it, few pump mods, decent converter, vb, etc. Never hurt to throw some clutches at it too, on and on and on........
