Installed factory tech valve body today and drained and refilled ATF with B&M synthetic mercon. I've noticed some minor reverse gear slippage over last few weeks, but it's much worse after the work today!
Talked to Bob Riley re: valve body and he confirmed that it does not effect reverse gear. My fluid level is OK, so what gives? Any ideas would be appreciated.

be sure the accumulator is bolted flat, the little screen can pop out and get lodged under it and not allow it to seat fully. This would likely affect the forward shifts as well if it was not seated properly. If it is in fine and all the forward shifts are firm the reverse clutch or fluid circuit could be at fault. A prssure guage in the tap with the truck in reverse will tell the story.

The small screen did come out when I pulled stock valve body, but I put it back in and locked it in place behind FT valve body. I'm sure it's flat, I bolted it in with correct torque specs from inside to outside bolts and nuts. Could new fluid (synthetic) cause this?

I doubt the fluid is the cause, lets get a pressure guage and take some reading. Needs to be a 300 psi unit, with a long enough hose where you can see it.

Richter69, do you concur with Bob Riley regarding the factory tech valve body not causing the problem, assuming that it is installed flat with correct torque specs?

Lud, yours slipping in reverse is EXACTLY what happened with mine on the install of the ftvb. No problems with the tranny until then. Riley and Evans did send me another one to try but it was no different. One of two things jumps out to me, either your tranny and mine were both at a point that the new vb, for whatever reason, show their weak points.....or there is something amiss in the ftvb's that makes reverse slip. Jon, any more thoughts as to what is happening here? It forced me into buying the m-box which I'm glad I did, but it makes me wonder if I could have gotten some more miles out of the stock tranny.

Looking at the big picture, there is a bunch of ftvb's out there and your reverse slipping along with mine is the only two I know of reported here....so with that said, I lean toward having problems with the stockers.....which is not a good thing for you Lud if that is the case. Any other noticable symtoms of tranny headed south before the install of the new VB?

I did notice on two occasions in the last few weeks where I was parked downhill and when I put shifter into reverse the truck rolled forward before reverse "engaged". It also seemed like I needed to give it a little higher than normal rpms to back up the slight inclines I was on. Maybe the ftvb or fluid or both are exagerating a problem that was already there. The tranny is a reman (bad, I know!) but is still under warranty.

Was under warranty, you mean. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/depressed.gif When you changed the valve body your warranty ended. You may think about returning it to stock and having it fixed under warranty, or just put it on a pallet and send it to Richter69.

Same here as Threestarr, I got mine installed it almost no reverse slip slip slip I liked how it shifted in forward though. Called Bob told him it was a Jasper reman if that made a differance??? They sent me a second one differant code and this one barley got my truck out of the shop it slipped so bad and it shifted so HARD in forward that the cab lifted up every time it shifted it would slam the gears even in my test run and never left the parking lot. I didnt want to do it agian so I put the stocker back in and it was perfect again?????? I dont know if jasper did something else that changed things Wilman had to change the OD shift point on my chip because Jasper must have changed the shift point too some how. Tony set the first one to shift at 45mph and I had to hit 60 to get it to shift, sent it back to him and he put the stock 37mph shift point back in and presto it shifted at 45??? I don't know if Jasper installed something in there remans like there own "updates"?? Still have my stock valve body. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif

Well guys, like Threestar and YankeeDiesel, I put stock VB back in and slip is gone, even better than before the synthetic fluid change when I was getting some slip and reverse delay. I'm not sure what is going on and I'm not trying to blame anything on the FTVB, just relaying the facts.
