Got an 04 E 350 super duty. I've got a few issues with it, but the most perplexing is sometimes when your driving it, it acts like it goes out of gear then abruptly goes back in, it usually does it at 40 mph and 65 to 70 mph. I had the trans rebuilt and a speed sensor put in. We were thinking tps or an injector causing the problem. Now to lay it all out, the cruise control doesn't work, nor the over drive on the gear shift. I have talked to people, asking if those 2 thing had anything to do with it and they were seprate issues, the selenoids were tested good. Before putting the speed sensor in, it would lock up on me occasionally and I would skid about 10 ft and then it would release. Thank GOD it hasn't locked up since. I went to just answers.com and got a few answers that just didn't pan out, like it being the rear planetary gear. Has anyone expierenced this before I go to the dealer for a dignoses?

You need to monitor what the computer is seeing and what it's commanding the transmission to do. That takes a high end scan tool, and they are not cheap.

Yes, Mark we did that, that when the guy said its eighter the trans speed sensor or the throdel position sensor. So les, who rebuilt the trans put the speed sensor and another sensor in the trans. since the tps wasn't part of the trans. he didn't put that one in, not to mention its $300. So I'm not sure if its the tps, the guy built a race car, but I don't know if he's an expert on diesels. just want to know if anyone has had this problem and what they did about it.

Hey Mark, if it was the tps, where is this located. I do have the electronics on the gas pedel. Is that some characteristics of it being bad, it down shifting because it doesn't know how much gas it getting.

I'm sorry, my last post above had something missing. I added it in caps.

The throttle position sensor is on the pedal assembly. If he can't tell if it is the TPS or a speed sensor you need someone else to look at the data.

Let me ask this, could a bad injector be causing this. I was on the hwy last light and floored it, trying to blow it out. I put some lucus fuel treatment in and its running so much smoother, so.. I floored it and the pick up on it was really slow, just trying to dignose it a little further. Now it didn't slip or anything at all yesterday, it seems like a intermittent problem. The last time he had the scanner hooked up, their was an inballance in cylinder 4, so that injector is probably bad im thinking, also when I turn the key on, in the message center it says water in fuel, I have put heet in as well as the cetane boost to clean it futher. I found a video on how to clean the turbo so I'm going to do that today. I want to see if I can clean the injector before I replace it. I do have the fuel filters on the way to replace them. However you being an expert, could this be causing the problem?

Is this the old HEET that is alcohol based?

If so, it can be very detrimental to your injectors. Water absorbed by the alcohol can flash to steam.

When you have water in the fuel the right thing to do is open the fuel drain and drain out the water until you get fuel.

A bad injector will not cause what your transmission is doing. You need someone with a high end scan tool that can monitor data AND interpret it to find out what's wrong.

Well it been 2 day and no sign of it acting up. I thiunk the lucus did the trick. My theory is sticky injectors, so the engine couldn't keep up with the electric gas pedal, so the trans said, well wich gear should I bee in. I did drain the water out of the filter, I'm actually going to change the filters today and hopefully my problem will be solve!
