I have a 1999 7.3 Super Duty Crew Cab 4X4 Automatic, Shift on the fly with 467,000 miles. Yesterday I notice a vibration which I thought maybe it was a tire but it got worse then all of a sudden a loud bang and all sorts of noise under the truck. The transfer case for the front wheels actually grenaded! all that was left was a chain and a wheel and the front drive shaft. I had the truck towed to my home and this morning I disconected the front drive shaft and removed the remaining part of the transfer case. The drive chain is still around the main transmision. No noise and it drives fine. Question #1) Are these transmissions two separate entities? Does anyone know aproximately the cost of a new tranfer case unit complete or where top get them. So I will a least no going in what this will cost.

I have had a new transmission at 250K miles and two alternators and 1 water pump but the truck runs perfect. No leaks!

Thanks

well with the miles you have and vaery few repairs goes to the quality of the 7.3.the tcase is a seperate entity.if you buy a new one prob not cheap.you could prob find a used oe at a reasonable cost.
