1999 F-350 7.3 Auto 167000 miles serviced at least ten times

When truck is cold, transmission shifts fine, all gears and no slippage. When unit gets hot usually 3-4 miles, it will not shift out of second. Overdrive light is not flashing, which means no codes are present. Let trauck sit overnight and it will repeat as stated above. One mech said it was the pump, another said it could be the solenoid body, lets here from others, It has to be something besides a total rebuild.....

There are lot's of causes of for no 2-3 upshift. Make sure fluid level is not to high after warm up, causes fluid aireation, pump can't pump air. S1 solenoid is going bad. 2-3 shift valve sticking. Try shifting manualy 1- 2 - 3 - OD after warm up, may indicate problem in S1 solenoid, 2-3 upshift.

Mark will probably chime in, he's the expert.

It could be a solenoid, or it could be a bad seal on the direct clutch. Does it have any problems with reverse? The direct clutch is also used in reverse.

Still acting funny

Sorry for not getting back on for a couple of days, spending time with the family. I drove the truck this morning, a new problem has appeared, it seems as though the tourqe convernter has decided to start locking up at will. My son and I pulled codes again, low and behold
PO500 - speed sensor malfuncioning
PO0733 - incorrect gear 3 ratio
PO782 - 2-3 shift failure
The further I drove it the tourqe convernter seemed not to lockup as much, BUT here is the strange thing ALL THE GEARS worked when the converter was locked up??????? Man this is a puzzle.
I have scheduled this morning to have the transmission flushed at our local shop with thier machine. Here my thinking, jump in and let me know if you agree, If it is a sticking valve and the converter is locking up, a flush could not hurt, if it is a solenoid going bad, it should still not shift right even after its flushed. either way when I get cleaned up I always feel better maybe it will feel the same??
